September 2000: the beginning of our journey

1

In September 2000, Sabre Holdings bought an Irish company named Gradient. Those were very different times, from both a chronological and technological point of view. Can you imagine that at the very beginning we had to climb a wooden ladder to enter into the office and we had to assemble our computers all by ourselves?

At that time, our job was creating solutions for travel agencies and reservation systems for airlines. Our programming tool of choice was Visual Basic. However, we did not place too much importance on the name of the tools we used, because what mattered the most for us was how they could help us solving real problems.

The average age of our employees was 26 years old. “There was a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, no matter how many projects we were able to complete. We were already a pioneer in the process of hiring and selection of our employees: the ideal candidate needed to have good interpersonal qualities and a significant growth margin in terms of professional development” – recalled Wojciech Gworek, currently Vice President, Software Engineering, who has been working in Sabre Polska since its very beginning.

“When I started working in Sabre, we were like a family. We knew each other very well – you knew who was in the office just by looking at the cars in the parking lot! We had different but complementary characters that made our work environment incredibly interesting and inspiring. Looking at what we have achieved, I am extremely proud of what Sabre Polska has become” – added Lucjan Sosna, Senior Director, Software Engineering, who has been working in Sabre since 2002.
